busy

I recently saw the movie ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ starring Ben Stiller.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s about a man who, like most of us, has dreams for his life. Unfortunately, he hasn’t done any of them. He dreams about being adventurous, romantic and brave, but he lacks the courage to actually be and do these things in his life.

This movie got me thinking about the kind of person I am in my daydreams. What kind of person do I want to be? What are the things I wish I could or should do but haven’t actually done?

I used to dream of being a much more organised me… the version of myself who had every part of her life sorted out. Someone who had time to exercise daily, cook healthy meals and also have time for the things that I enjoy, while balancing and being successful in my super busy schedule!

I realised, if that’s who I wanted to be, then I had to make it happen myself.

I’m happy to report that now that I’ve consistently made meal planning, preparing healthy food and exercising a solid part of my daily routine for so long, I find that despite being busy, I still manage to keep on track. Even if I let the organisation slip for a week or so, my husband and I are still able to live on the dozen or so random meals that I’ve portioned out in my freezer – for such a time as this! I’m certainly not perfect, but I’m so glad that I’m not where I used to be.

I know for many of us, we dream of being a fitter, healthier, happier version of ourselves. Someone who can balance work, family and other commitments, while being able to look after ourselves and family by eating well and exercising.

When life gets hectic, it’s often healthy eating and exercising that falls by the wayside. For some reason we think of these things as less important than the other jobs on our to-do list.

Don’t let your dreams of being fitter and healthier your slide away in the busyness of life! Your health and fitness is worth the investment and time. Many successful business people will say that the secret to their success is a healthy lifestyle. I know for me, if I want to make healthy eating and exercise who I am and what I do, then it takes consistent planning – and the planning never stops!
